Bend's Best Flow Trail: Tiddlywinks

On my recent trip to Bend, Oregon, I rode a new trail: Tiddlywinks. It's a 7 mile descent that contains sections of both technical and flow. This trail quickly became a favorite and one you don't want to miss out on!

Getting There

Located just southwest of Bend, there's two parking lots you can park at. The parking lot at the bottom is probably the best unless your getting a shuttle, in which case you would park at the snow park at the top. If your going to climb up yourself, start on Storm King. This will shortly turn into Funner, which is a two way trail that's better for climbing. This will go on for about 6 miles, until you get to the top near the snow park parking lot. At the top, there's a large pump track which contains large jumps and drops.

Descending

Now you're in for a 7 mile downhill! It starts with a short technical section that's almost unridable. There are many Y forks, which are two trail options that meet up shortly. They will have signs that indicate the trail rating, which will usually be a blue one way and a green the other. After getting out of the technical section, a long flow section follows. The first part is wide, smooth double track with twenty foot table tops, perfect for practicing new tricks such as whips and table tops. After this, the rest is flowy singletrack. Be sure to look at some of the jumps as they appear to be table tops but are large gaps over rocks and bushes.

Overall Impression

This is a great trail for all ages and experience level. You might want to walk the technical section, but all the mandatory jumps are table tops with low consequence. Warning: you WILL be addicted to this trail after riding it once.
