Finding the Perfect MTB Campground in Bend

My buddy and I went on a camping trip centered around mountain biking. It was late at night when we arrived, and there were no campgrounds. Thankfully, you're allowed to camp basically anywhere in the forest you want. We pulled into the bottom of Lower Whoops and found a great clearing to set up our tent. The next morning, we had breakfast, and started the climb to the top of Whoops with no driving necessary.

Planning

First, do some research ahead of time - trails you want to ride, food, gear, etc. Make sure to bring extra tubes or sealant. The rocks are notorious for popping tires! Next, find what area is most convenient. Some factors to consider are trails and distance from town.

Getting There

Once you have planned your trip, you're ready to drive! Be careful of bumpy gravel roads and watch for deer, especially at night. Once you arrive at the area you want to camp, start looking for sites. Ideally you can find one near a trailhead or an area with a bathroom, although you really just need a flat area big enough for your tent.

Setup Camp & Ride!

This one's pretty self-explanatory. Choose a flat area for your tent, clear the rocks and pinecones out of the way, and set it up. Set up any extra gear you may have, such as a stove, then you're ready for adventure. Happy riding!
