Tips and Tricks for Hitting New Jumps

Hitting new jumps can be nerve racking (speaking from experience)! However, there's a process I use that helps calm the nerves and help me hit the jump, and I hope it helps you.

1: Look at the jump

Look at the jump from different angles. Look at the takeoff, the run in, and the landing. Note any cautions or obstacles, such as a rock or sharp turn in the landing. Clear any sticks or rocks that may cause problems.

2. Analyze

Think about your skills and if you can safely hit the jump. Ask yourself if the risk outweighs the benefits and fun. Ask yourself if you really want to hit the jump. If so, go on to step three.

3. Do a run in

Go a ways up the trail, and approach the jump with pace as if you were going to jump it. Stop at the lip of the jump and think about if you have enough or too much speed. If so, do another run in with the necessary adjustments. If you feel you have the right speed, its time to send it!

Send it!

Once you're feeling confident, its time to hit the jump. Approach it how you did in your run in, but don't brake. Trust your skills and be confident, and you will clear the jump. That's all to it!
