MTB Food: Fueling your Ride

Proper hydration and nutrience is important when riding on the trails. Food provides much needed energy and water helps keep you hydrated, both of which are extremely important during rides.

However, I get bored of eating the same bars on every ride. In this article, I'll share some great food and snacks that I bring and eat on rides.

What makes good mountain biking food?

Quality Nutrition - Mountain bikers need a good supply of carbohydrates, sodium, and protein. Carbs are the most important, as they give you energy so you don't run out mid climb. Protein is good in small amounts, but is most important after your ride to build muscle. Finally, sodium helps prevent cramping, which is very important when riding.

Convenience - Choose a snack that doesn't require much packing or clean up. You don't want to deal with messy food during your ride. Also, make sure to pack out your trash. Thanks!

Lightweight - Lighter food is easier to pack and carry when you're biking. If you choose to heavy of foods, you'll regret it later on.

Durable - Don't choose food that will get crushed easily, such as grapes. If you want a fruit, an apple would be better.
